Just the other day I experienced my little yogini, not so little anymore, affirm her attitudes towards herself in a really confident and positive manner. We were actually talking about how much homework she has and with her piano lessons and yoga too, she was starting to feel overwhelmed and stressed. As she came round she started to use many of our positive affirmation tools to help set her mind at ease, and provide the space to reaffirm her inner confidence and trust. She told me that she knows she can do these things really well and that she was confident in the fact that after a bubble meditation and an affirmation of “I am safe, I am protected and I can do it” she would find a good night's rest would come easily and awake to a whole new day.
The fact that she was breathing deeply and smiling after was when I really saw how powerful these tools can be to a child to help guide them through tough times.
An affirmation is a positive self statement. A powerful, empowering tool to help create positive attitudes and the motivation to achieve goals or to help you feel good about yourself, your potential or the environment around you.
With a lifetime of challenges and responsibilities around us, these ideas can seem overly simplistic, even hokey. But we all know the effect that words can have on a child who doesn't have the emotional shields we've constructed over time. Children respond to words at a base level and if those words are supportive, empowering and come from within, they'll have a lasting effect and they'll never run short of them.
Using affirmations is a great way to empower your child, uplift them, fill them with the confidence to reach their goals. Though they may seem far away.
Try an affirmation jar or affirmation cards at home, where your little yogis can pick one out every morning to start their day.
Or maybe affirmation pendants to give out to friends!
You are all great readers! Hehehe! 🙂
